![]() Ultimately, the story that unfolds about Toru and Kumiko is secondary to the lessons I felt that author was trying to convey. ![]() ![]() But this simple narrative is really a vehicle to deliver many introspective quandaries into subjects like true love, financial stability, social conventions, Japanese history, the concept of reality and ultimately, the meaning of life.Įach of these vignettes gets tied into the larger quest narrative but the tangents are so detailed and rife with symbolism that the reader must carefully reflect upon Murakami's intentions. Murakami's story is actually dead simple: the main character's (Toru Okada) wife (Kumiko) leaves him and he spends the remainder of the book trying to get her back. Still, I really want to try and capture my feelings for this text (now six weeks past). The Wind Up Bird Chronicle is just too much, and I mean that in the best way. ![]() I wanted to review this book just after I finished it, but I could not. ![]()
